Roots & Wings

Roots & Wings is a group exhibition of twenty-six women artists organised by Artists of Beirut at Rebirth Beirut, on rue Gouraud in Gemmayzeh, Beirut, from 24 September to 3 October 2026. Micheline Nohra is guest of honour.

The exhibition takes belonging as its theme. "Belonging is often imagined as something rooted, a place we come from or an identity we carry. But what if belonging is not defined by where we stay, but by how we move through the world?" the organisers write. According to the listing in Agenda Culturel, the show brings together more than eighty works across painting, sculpture, mixed media, embroidery, photography, digital art, ceramics and upcycling.

The artists are Rana Abboud, Ardziv, Marcelle Asmar, Nadeen Baba, Nayla Cannamela, Zeina Chehab, Alia Corm, Paulette Eid, Karin Hantes, Aline Kallab, Nada Karam, Maya Khalaf, Tamara Khodr, Lama Mansour, Nevine Mattar, Nicole Mezher, Joana Mocachen, Cynthia Odsi, Christine Ozeir, Helen Serhan, Nadine Sidani, Wassila Taha, Aida Tannoury, Patricia Vivian and Zena Yachoui, with Micheline Nohra. They are drawn from the seven seasons of Artists of Beirut and from its Artists of Beirut Boutique concept. Agenda Culturel describes four of them. Lama Mansour paints female nudes in a cool palette of blues, greys and violets. Nayla Cannamela, born in Beirut and based in London, has worked in papier mâché since the 1990s; her series of octopus forms in reused cardboard starts from the sanniyeh, a tray often used in Lebanon to serve kibbeh. Helen Serhan, born in Congo, shows black and white photographs of an old door, gulls in flight and the Mediterranean horizon. Christine Ozeir, based in Portugal since 2022, paints abstractions built on the repetition of a gesture, which she compares to meditation.

Agenda Culturel reports that the show is the second annual exhibition of Artists of Beirut. Two workshops run alongside it, both from 3pm to 4.30pm: upcycling with Karin Hantes on 28 September and photography with Nada Karam on 1 October. Part of the proceeds goes to support the initiatives of Rebirth Beirut.
