Biography

Yasmine Hadni is a Moroccan artist, born in Rabat in 1992, who lives and works in Casablanca. She is first of all a painter, and also makes drawings, videos, sound pieces and prints. Her paintings combine oil with chalk or soft pastel, and at times acrylic, mostly on cotton canvas. Checkmate (2017) measures 200 by 270 centimetres.

She paints from her family's photographs, turning archive images into scenes where memory and fiction meet. Her main subject is the relationships within a family, often seen through a child's eyes. Her series include Back to the Roots, with Checkmate, and La trame évanescente de nos souvenirs, with Monday means school days (2018). Le Rituel du matin (2024), a diptych, belongs to Parallels, and The Fitting room (2026) to Interiors.

Hadni earned a DNAP at Villa Arson, Nice, in 2015. She completed an MFA in painting and drawing at SAIC (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) in 2019. Her solo shows include Back to the roots at La Galerie Banque Populaire, Rabat, in 2017. A later solo, Chez nous, même le silence est bruyant, was held in Casablanca in 2025. In 2026 she showed in Bonnes Mères at the Mucem, Marseille. She won second prize in the Prix Mustaqbal of Fondation TGCC in 2024, and MACAAL in Marrakech holds her work.
