Biography

Hanane El Farissi is a Moroccan artist, born in Skhirat in 1990, who lives between Rabat and Brussels. Her practice spans drawing, installation, performance, sculpture and video. Image, body and space are her starting points. She draws in particular on the image of her own body, and on objects.

Dakira (2014) uses hair on paper and mixed media on photography. It was presented at Le Cube in Rabat, as was the performance Break the Mirror that year. Embrassement d'un Embrasement (2020), shown at HISK, is an interactive in situ installation with video and drawings in paint and ink. In 2019 she performed Grace & Lace at S.M.A.K., Ghent. A 2021 text by Phillip Van den Bossche discusses her drawings of facades and ruins. The Dbagh Project (2024 to 2026) studies the Marrakech tanneries with the archaeologist Thomas Reitmaier.

El Farissi graduated from INBA in Tétouan in 2013 and took a master's in contemporary sculpture at La Cambre, Brussels, in 2017. She completed the HISK postgraduate programme in Ghent in 2020. In 2021 she held solo exhibitions at Moussem and Marie-Laure Fleisch Gallery in Brussels. That year she won the Rotary Club Milano Brera Prize at MiArt. IKOB in Eupen, M HKA in Antwerp, Mu.ZEE in Ostend and S.M.A.K. in Ghent hold her work.
