Biography

Mounia Amor is a Moroccan painter, born in Fès in 1959, who works from a studio in Casablanca. She paints in oil on canvas. Her paintings from 2025 and 2026 are abstract, built from circles, arcs, diagonals and overlapping planes. Some include raised forms that stand out from the surface.

Amor studied pharmacy in France and began painting in 1995. Her early palette was close to Impressionism, and over time she moved towards compositions of cubic, more structured forms. Her solo exhibition Ambre et Lumière, at So Art Gallery in 2021, marked twenty years of her career. It showed geometric lines, broken-up faces, angular curves and female figures, and drew on music, a recurring theme in her work. In L'envers des formes, her 2026 exhibition at the same gallery, light is a central concern in paintings such as Rayonnement and Ascension.

Amor's first exhibition was at Galerie Agenda 21 in Essaouira in 2000. Her CV lists exhibitions in Casablanca, Essaouira, Bouskoura and Paris, including the Printemps des Arts Plastiques at Dar Souiri in 2006, 2007 and 2010. In 2015 she showed in Paris at the Salon d'automne and at Galerie Mona Lisa. At So Art Gallery she took part in the group exhibition Héritages Croisés in 2024 and returned for a solo show in 2026.
