Biography

Lana Khayat (b. 1983) is a Lebanese artist based in Dubai who works in painting, textile and installation. Her subjects are the lily, Tifinagh and Phoenician scripts, Arabic calligraphy and the memory of Lebanon. The lily stands for women, resilience and transformation. She paints in oil and acrylic and stitches flowers of silk and thread onto the canvas.

Her practice began in calligraphy and script, then turned to nature and the lily. The Feminine Script (2024) is a painting in oil and acrylic on linen. Botanic Cipher (2024) and The verdant lab (2025) were shown at Art Madrid in 2026. Dessine-moi un pays, le Liban (2026) is five canvases, each 170 by 220 cm.

She trained in design at the American University of Beirut, then took an MFA at the School of Visual Arts, New York. She joined the group show Lebanon, Untitled at Cromwell Place, London (2023). Her first solo show in Saudi Arabia, at Hafez Gallery, Riyadh (2025), held 100 paintings and an installation of 1,000 flowers. At Art Dubai in 2026 Hafez Gallery gave her a solo booth, her first at an international fair. The Bassam Freiha Art Foundation, Abu Dhabi, showed her beside Etel Adnan and Helen Khal (2026), with flowers on a walk-in carpet of grass. Hafez Gallery has supported her for about a decade.
