Networks Part 4

Al Markhiya Gallery continues its Networks series with Networks Part 4, a collaboration with Hafez Gallery, the Jeddah gallery founded in 2014 by Qaswra Hafez. On view at Al Markhiya's space in Building 5 of Katara Cultural Village from 4 August to 30 September 2026, the exhibition brings together Qatar-based artists and artists from the Hafez Gallery programme in a single conversation about the Gulf.

The series has travelled across the Arab world: earlier editions looked to Syria, then to Egypt and the Levant, and this fourth chapter turns to the Arabian Gulf. Anas Kutit, Managing Director of Al Markhiya Gallery, told QNA that the exhibition "is part of the gallery's ongoing efforts to explore the Arab creative landscape."

The gallery frames the show carefully: it is "not a retrospective. It is a reunion of trajectories." According to the gallery, three artists who worked together in 2016 return a decade later, each having developed a distinct visual language through experimentation and personal change. The Qatar-based artists Hanadi Darwish, Mubarak Al-Thani and Wafika Sultan show alongside Hafez Gallery artists including the Egyptian painter Ibrahim El Dessouki, Bashaer Hawsawi, Lana Khayat, Khalid Al Mutlaq and Sara Al Abdali.

Across generations and approaches, the works turn around memory, abstraction, materiality and identity. For visitors to Katara, it is a compact way to see how two of the Gulf's longer-standing private galleries, one in Doha and one in Jeddah, are building a shared regional network, and the final week before the show closes on 30 September is a good moment to catch it.
