Hassan El Glaoui

Hassan El Glaoui was a Moroccan painter, born in Marrakech, a son of Thami El Glaoui, the last Pasha of Marrakech. He painted horses and equestrian scenes, above all the horsemen of the fantasia, as well as portraits, still lifes and domestic scenes. He lived in Rabat, where he died on 21 June 2018.

He made his first paintings before any formal training. He lived in Paris from 1950 to 1960 and trained at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in the early 1950s under Jean Souverbie and Émilie Charmy. He exhibited in Paris in 1950, London in 1960, New York in 1967 and Brussels in 1969.

In 2019 the Musée Mohammed VI d'Art Moderne et Contemporain in Rabat presented Hassan El Glaoui: Le sel de ma terre, curated by Touria El Glaoui, from 2 April to 31 August. His work is held by the Parliament of Morocco in Rabat and by the Musée Mohammed VI d'Art Moderne et Contemporain.
