Biography
Amira Awad is an Egyptian designer and artist based in Cairo, where she runs the furniture brand Green Door. Her pieces centre on natural wood, combined with metal and other materials. She reads the grain and veins of the wood as a kind of handwriting.
Her designs draw on a mix of heritage, history and cultures, with a strong pull from ancient Egyptian craft. She makes bespoke furniture meant to be kept and handed down, and also works on interiors. Respect for scarce materials guides her choices.
She revives traditional craft techniques and adapts them to present-day design. Pieces shown with Art D'Égypte include the Garden Canopy (Eewan), the Bareeq stool in steel mashrabiya and a brass credenza. In 2026 she took part in Formed by Dialogue II at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
