Biography
Hana El-Sagini (b. 1980) is an Egyptian artist who makes sculpture, installation, painting and ceramics. She works with materials such as bronze, wood and textiles. Her subjects include memory, care and transformation, and she uses the body as both theme and metaphor to link private experience with shared history.
She describes herself as a fourth-generation artist. She first studied economics and spent twelve years in human resources, reaching the post of head of talent acquisition for PepsiCo in northeast Africa by 2014. She then turned to art, and for a time ran the art school her father had founded. In 2022 she completed a master's diploma in art at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel.
Her first solo exhibition, Moments, opened at Zamalek Art Gallery in Cairo in 2018. Counting Fingers, a show on her experience of breast cancer and her first work in ceramics, was held at 421 Arts Campus in Abu Dhabi. She has also taken part in Plot Twist at Art Basel and in Adaptability at the Saudi Museum of Contemporary Art.
