Heba Y. Amin

Heba Y. Amin (b. 1980, Cairo) is an Egyptian artist based in Berlin. She works in film, photography, performance and installation. Since 2021 she has been Full Professor of Digital and Time-Based Art at the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart.

Her projects include Speak2Tweet, shown from 2013, The Earth is an Imperfect Ellipsoid (2016) and Operation Sunken Sea, shown from 2019.

She studied fine arts at Macalester College, graduating in 2002, and took an MFA in New Media Art and Interactive Design at the University of Minnesota in 2009. Her solo exhibitions include A Rectilinear Propagation of Thought at Zilberman Gallery, Berlin (2018), When I see the future, I close my eyes at The Mosaic Rooms, London (2020), and Iterations on Witnessing at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (2025). She took part in Berlinale Forum Expanded in 2014 and 2016, Dak'Art in 2016, the 15th Istanbul Biennial in 2017 and the 10th Berlin Biennale in 2018. She received the Anni and Heinrich Sussmann Artist Award in 2020 and the Hans-Molfenter-Preis in 2025, and was shortlisted for the seventh Ithra Art Prize in 2026. Her work is in the collections of the British Museum, the Musée du quai Branly, KADIST and the Kunststiftung DZ Bank.
