Yasmina Hilal

Yasmina Hilal is a Lebanese artist, born in Beirut in 1996, who lives and works in the city. She makes mixed-media collages from her own photographs, which she scans, prints, cuts, splices, sews and burns by hand, without digital manipulation.

Her subject is almost always women, and her work deals with memory and with the lives of women in the region. Series include 2200, in which mannequin-like figures carry extra limbs, Stitched, which works thread into the photographic surface, and Men of the Sea, her first series photographing men. Single works include Ripples in a Pond (2022) and Lovebirds (2023). She is also working with her grandfather's photographic archive towards a book.

Hilal studied at Emerson College in Boston, graduating with a BA in Visual Media Arts and a minor in photography, with a focus on darkroom and alternative analogue processes. She has shown several times with the collective Hayaty Diaries in London, including in Through Their Eyes: Perspectives Unveiled (2023) and I forgot what you felt like (2024). In 2026 she took part in Fabric of Time / 2 at Difaf Gallery, Beirut.
