Biography

Meriam Benkirane is an artist based in Casablanca, where she was born in 1984. She works in painting, murals, drawing, sculpture, installation and digital art. Trained as an interior architect, she paints interlocking geometric forms, such as tubes, slotted bars, plates and gears, gathered into floating structures with modelled light and shade.

Her pictures draw on the city and on the way technology shapes daily life. Interlude, her 2024 solo show at La Galerie 38 in Casablanca, marked her move from acrylic to oil and used sfumato to soften contours. For Factory of Hope (2026), at the gallery's Marrakech space, she moved away from composing on screen and built her oils in slow layers.

Benkirane held the solo exhibition Reflect at La Galerie 38 in Casablanca in 2022. Her murals include a 13 by 11 metre wall for the Jidar festival in Rabat in 2023 and a cabin at the Piscine Molitor in Paris in 2024. In 2026 she took part in Écouter l'eau, organised by La Galerie 38 with the Fondation BMCI. Her work is in the collections of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat and MACAAL in Marrakech.
