Biography

Itaf Benjelloun is a Moroccan artist born in Ksar el Kébir who grew up in Tangier, where she is based. She works mainly in sculpture, in the round and in bas-relief. Her pieces join iron, earth and wood to fragments of objects that have already served another use. She favours a monochrome palette, which lets each raw material show its natural character. She has exhibited since 1997, when she first showed in Tangier.

Benjelloun studied architecture in Toulouse and French literature in Rabat, and works as an interior architect. Her projects there range from interior fitting, restoration and decoration in Tangier and elsewhere in Morocco to several sets for film and theatre. Her research turns on the many readings a single subject allows, the way it develops, and the part chance plays in making a work. In What Remains, a 2026 group show in Rabat, she showed Césarienne (2025), a calm face held between two parabolas.

She held solo shows at the Artorium of Fondation TGCC, Casablanca (Andante, 2025) and Galerie Bab Rouah, Rabat (Prélude et Fugue, 2026). She has taken part in group shows at Abla Ababou Galerie in Rabat since 2018. In 2021 she showed in Il était une fois…, a group show at Atelier Fer & Verre in Dakar during the tenth Partcours.
