Press release
Œuvres choisies is a solo exhibition by Mustapha Boujemaoui at the American Arts Center in Casablanca. It opened on 13 October 2026 and runs until 10 November. Art Corner Gallery, which represents the artist and is directed by Youssef Bennani, organises the show. Le360 reports about twenty works on view.
Boujemaoui's painting rests on transparency, the repetition of forms and the persistence of signs. The critic Olivier Rachet writes that it asks viewers to look again at what they have stopped noticing, seen through glass. In his reading, an object can change under the brush into a chair or a body. The works sit between abstraction and figuration.
Boujemaoui trained at the Institut des beaux-arts in Tétouan. He went on to the Académie des beaux-arts in Brussels, then the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the Sorbonne in Paris. After returning to Morocco in 1982 he showed regularly at the gallery L'Atelier in Rabat. Posters from that period hang in the exhibition.
The show overlaps with Mustapha Boujemaoui: la poétique des formes, a Fondation nationale des musées exhibition at the Villa Carl Ficke, Musée de la Mémoire de Casablanca. That show runs until 30 November 2026, and Art Corner Gallery lent several works to it.
