Press release
Du Groupe de Casablanca aux nouvelles générations is a group exhibition at the Galerie Banque Populaire in Rabat. It runs from 8 October 2026 to 27 March 2027. The show pairs work by the Moroccan painter, sculptor and ceramicist Abderrahmane Rahoule with that of eight younger artists.
The eight are Yahya Al Mukhtar, Youness Amriss (Dynam), Nabil Bahya, Zineb Bennani-Smires, Rebel Spirit (Mohammed El Belaoui), Zineb El Ouardi, Oussama Mahassine and Youness Miloudi. Most graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Casablanca. Their work runs from painting and street art to abstraction and figuration. It deals with identity, memory, heritage and change in Moroccan society.
The project began as a carte blanche offered to Rahoule. According to the exhibition brochure quoted by Le360, the younger artists turned it into a tribute to their teacher. Rahoule taught at the Casablanca school for decades and later ran it. The exhibition also looks back at the Groupe de Casablanca, the movement behind modern Moroccan art, in which the organisers give Rahoule a central place.
Rebel Spirit shows a painting of the popular singer Kharboucha. Zineb El Ouardi shows geometric, semi-abstract paintings drawn from traditional and modern Moroccan architecture.
