Gathering

Gathering (Buluşma) is a group exhibition drawn from the Elgiz Collection at the Elgiz Museum in Maslak, Istanbul, on view from 28 August to 28 November 2026. It sets 23 artists side by side and places new acquisitions next to works already in the collection. The selection spans sculpture, painting, photography, textiles, digital prints and installation, and its register is set by silver prints, ink, wood, bronze and dark colour.

The exhibition reads the collection through its different periods and layers. Its premise is that the Elgiz Collection belongs to no single geography and favours no single technique. Selma Gürbüz, Mimmo Paladino, Candeğer Furtun and Rebecca Horn appear beside Cevdet Erek, Zeki Demirkubuz, Alimi Adewale, Mario Testino, Stephen Dean and Assume Vivid Astro Focus.

A video by Tim White-Sobieski entered the collection in 2005 as one of its first video works, and its presence traces the collection's turn towards new media. Installation views released by the museum show framed photographs and works on paper along a grey wall. A rusted-steel figure stands on a tall base, and a large patterned work closes the room. The other participants are Mahmut Aydın, Ramazan Bayrakoğlu, Loris Cecchini, Magdalena Frauenberg, Mustafa Horasan, Gülfem Kessler, Morteza Khazaie, Clara Montoya, Julian Opie, Ceren Oykut, Wang Xiaosuang and Burcu Yağcıoğlu.

Cevdet Erek, born in Istanbul in 1974, builds installations from sound, rhythm and architecture. His own exhibition list records Gathering as a collection exhibition. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. It is closed on Sunday, Monday and public holidays.
