Wissam Beydoun

Wissam Beydoun was born in 1961 in Beirut, Lebanon. He paints abstract landscapes built from organic forms, using transparencies, lines and shifts of value to change how a landscape is read. He studied at the Lebanese American University, where he received the Sheikh Zayed Award.

Mountains and the forms of nature are his starting point, from the belief that everything grows out of a single form. Early Morning Exercise (2025) draws on childhood summers in the woods near Dhour el Choueir. In Re-imagining Beirut (2022) he turned to cartography, painting maps of Beirut as labyrinths of abstract and organic forms that allude to the city remaking itself after the 4 August 2020 explosion.

Art on 56th in Beirut has held his solo exhibitions Re-imagining Beirut (2022) and Early Morning Exercise (2025), and included him in Landscape Conversations (2025). He has also taken part in the Salon d'Automne at the Sursock Museum, Beirut.
