Biography

Sinem Demirci (b. 1991, Istanbul, Turkey) is an artist based in Istanbul who works in painting. Her subjects are women, animals and objects from everyday life, placed together in pairings that need no explanation. Her figurative portraits show deformed and distorted features.

Demirci describes her work through the multiple self, or çoklu ben: the many versions each person could be, is and will be. The distortions in her portraits stand for these possible selves. Inside Your Head (2026) gathers paintings in which women share the picture with a black bird, a hen, a monkey or a leopard. In one, a young woman eats spaghetti while the bird leans over her plate. In another, a woman in a tiled kitchen carries a hen on her head beside plates of eggs.

Demirci graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Okan University, Istanbul, in 2015, having entered on a high-achievement scholarship. She took part in two group exhibitions at Pg Art Gallery, Istanbul, in 2025: The Unseen and The Dream of Shells That Never Existed. With the gallery she showed at the fairs Contemporary Istanbul (2023 to 2026), Contemporary Istanbul Bloom (2023 and 2024) and Art Show Galeriler Buluşması (2024). Her solo exhibition Inside Your Head opened at the gallery in 2026. She is represented by Pg Art Gallery, Istanbul.
