Inside Your Head

Pg Art Gallery in Maslak, Istanbul, presents Inside Your Head, a solo exhibition of paintings by Sinem Demirci, from 24 October to 27 November 2026. Her figurative paintings set women beside animals and objects in scenes drawn from ordinary daily life. Demirci was born in Istanbul in 1991 and lives and works in the city.

The images the gallery has released show how these pairings work. A young woman eats a bowl of spaghetti while a black bird leans in over the plate. Another sits in a tiled kitchen with a hen perched on her head, beside dishes of eggs. Other women share the picture with a leopard, a monkey, a praying mantis or a flock of sheep. Two of the works hang in ornate gilt frames.

The gallery reads these meetings as unexpected encounters that make familiar things look odd. Nothing in the pictures sits quite where it belongs, and yet no figure seems troubled by it. Much of the effect rests on how the women look out, hold themselves and relate to one another. The exhibition offers no single story or answer to decode. Each viewer is left to read the scenes through personal memory and association.

Demirci graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Okan University in 2015, having won her place there on a high-achievement scholarship. She describes her practice through the idea of a multiple self: the many versions of one person, each with its own choices and paths. The deformed and distorted features in her portraits stand for those possible selves. She is represented by Pg Art Gallery and has shown with it at Contemporary Istanbul each year from 2023 to 2026. Her group exhibitions at the gallery include The Unseen and The Dream of Shells That Never Existed, both in 2025.
