Roger Moukarzel

Roger Moukarzel is a Lebanese photographer born in Beirut in 1962 and based in the city. He began working as a war photographer at the age of fifteen and worked for the agencies Sygma and Reuters during the 1980s. His photographs were published in The Washington Post, Newsweek and Paris Match.

After some fifteen years in photojournalism he turned to fashion and advertising photography, documentary film and art photography, and founded the production company Minime. His books include Green Gold, Creative Lives, Afrisoul and Le Voile. After the Beirut port explosion of 4 August 2020 he made Pieces, photographing on a white background everyday objects gathered from the streets around the port, one for each person killed. Pieces was shown in Paris in 2021.

In 2026 Galerie Mark Hachem in Beirut presented The Sacred Thread: A Personal Journey Between Silt, Shadow and Sky, a solo exhibition of photographs, figures sculpted from natural sand and architectural elements.
