Mounira Al Solh

Mounira Al Solh is a Lebanese artist, born in Beirut in 1978, who lives and works between Beirut and Amsterdam. Her work spans installation, painting, drawing, embroidery, video, text and performance.

She builds much of it from oral documentation and collaboration, using micro-histories and retold myths to bear witness to conflict and displacement. Works include the video A Double Burger and Two Metamorphoses (2011), the installation Clogged (2014), with a hundred pairs of wooden clogs, and the painting The Mother of David and Goliath (2019). In 2008 she started NOA Magazine (Not Only Arabic), and in 2013 co-founded NOA Language School in Amsterdam.

Al Solh studied painting at the Lebanese University in Beirut and fine art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (2003 to 2006), and was a resident at the Rijksakademie (2007 to 2008). She represented Lebanon at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024 with A Dance with her Myth. Solo exhibitions include the Art Institute of Chicago and Mathaf, Doha (2018), BALTIC, Gateshead (2022), and Serralves, Porto, and the Bonnefanten, Maastricht (2025); she took part in documenta 14 (2017). She won the ABN AMRO Art Award in 2023.
