Mansour El Habre

Mansour El Habre was born in Lebanon in 1970. He paints abstract compositions in mixed media on canvas and works on paper, and has made etchings and engravings.

His paintings are made by piling up, tearing and colouring pictorial elements, so that flat, sharp and suspended shapes sit together and the space reads from above and from the front at once. Fragments can take on hints of figures, and the tension between clear and blurred edges drives the surface. His drawings from 2016 to 2023 were shown at Art on 56th in 2024.

He holds a diploma in plastic arts from the Lebanese University and a master's degree in plastic arts from the University of Balamand. He teaches painting and drawing at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA). He has exhibited since 1993. In 2008 the Lebanese Ministry of Culture invited him to the International Triennial of Engraving in Rhodes. In 2020 his Beirut and the People was in Art in Isolation at the Middle East Institute, Washington, DC. Art on 56th held his solo exhibition Beau Négatif in 2023.
