Biography
Imad Fakhry was born in 1974 in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, into a family of artists. He paints and draws, makes etchings and engravings, and is trained in decorative painting and trompe l'oeil.
His paintings are figurative: people gathered in rooms, tables, places and dogs, held to the rules of naturalistic representation while colour works against academic realism. Some canvases stay close to academic drawing; others move towards abstraction. Art on 56th in Beirut held his solo exhibition Beyond Screens in 2024.
He studied at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA) and received a master's degree from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He also took courses in decorative painting and trompe l'oeil with the French artist Yannick Guéguan. He has taught drawing, etching and trompe l'oeil at ALBA since 2003. He received the ABN AMRO Bank Prize in 2000 and the Dr Chaouki Chamoun Prize in 2016, and showed etchings at the Triennial of Rhodes in 2008.
