Ghada Jamal

Ghada Jamal was born in 1955 in Beirut, Lebanon. She paints landscapes, often on location, choosing places by the way light reveals them, and has made public murals.

She began painting in the early 1980s and studied at Beirut University College. She then moved to the United States for graduate study at California State University, Long Beach, where she earned a master's degree in drawing and painting. She lived in California until 2002, when she returned to Lebanon. Belonging For (1990-2022), shown in 2022, gathers paintings made on location over three decades, and From Heartland to Homeland (2025) brings together three series painted in 2023 and 2024.

Art on 56th in Beirut held both exhibitions. Her work is in the collections of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC, and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Amman, which holds Cloud Burst No.3 (1992) and Untitled (2003). She has taken part in The Road to Peace at Beirut Art Center, and taught drawing and painting at the American University of Beirut and Notre Dame University.
