Biography
Georges Bassil was born in 1965 in Beirut, Lebanon. A self-taught painter, he began working as an artist in 1995. He paints human figures, above all the female form, in transparent washes and light applications of pigment on fabric.
His figures appear absorbed in their own thoughts, indifferent to the viewer, set in a restricted palette of ochres, reds, beiges, blacks and whites. Facial expression and presence carry the work, and solitude and silence are the theme of My Own Sweet Solitude (2025).
Art on 56th in Beirut has held his solo exhibitions Breathless (2015), Once Upon a Time (2019) and My Own Sweet Solitude (2025). Galerie Rochane in Beirut showed his Personnages sur toiles in 2009, and Orient Gallery in Amman shows his work.
