Biography

Farshid Mesghali was born in Isfahan in 1943 and studied painting at Tehran University. He works in illustration, graphic design, painting and sculpture. In the 1970s his output included animated films, film posters and illustrations for children's books.

He began working in graphic design and illustration in 1964, and in 1968 he joined the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in Tehran. In 1968 he won a first graphic prize at the Bologna children's book fair for Little Black Fish. In 1973 a special prize at the Venice Film Festival followed, for The Boy, The Bird & The Musical Instrument. In 1974 he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award.

He moved to Paris in 1979, where paintings and sculptures were shown at the Sammy King Gallery. His graphic design studio, Desktop Studio, was set up in Southern California in 1986. From 1990 to 1994 he made digital works from snapshot photographs. His work appears in the 2026 group exhibition Single Frame at Laleh Art Gallery in Tehran.
