Tirdad Hashemi

Tirdad Hashemi was born in Tehran in 1991 and lives between Paris and Berlin. They make largely figurative drawings and paintings, with long titles drawn from letter writing.

The work is made with immediacy and centres on queer embodiment, care and community. Works include Stuttering language (2020). Since 2021 they have worked with their partner Soufia Erfanian, including on a series of flower paintings about love, polyamory and intimacy. Their joint work Dance That Pincushion with Rhythm (2023) was shown in Dream Time at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, in 2024.

Hashemi's work was also in Dislocations at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2024), and in the 17th Biennale de Lyon (2024). They studied fine art at Maziar University in Noor, Iran, graduating in 2014, and at Sorbonne University, Paris, graduating in 2017. Their work is in the collection of the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris.
