Edgard Mazigi

Edgard Mazigi was born in 1955 in Beirut, where he lives and works. He paints and draws, starting each canvas with abstract marks and letting recognisable images emerge from them.

The finished works show figures in landscapes and interiors, often motionless, as if an action had been stopped, with a sense of narrative but no clear story. He trained first as a textile engineer at ESITL in Lyon. From 1995 to 1998 he studied painting at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, receiving its certificate with an award for excellence in painting.

He returned to Lebanon in 1999 and has taught at the Lebanese American University and Saint Joseph University. According to Selections, he showed in the Sursock Museum's Salon d'Automne in every edition from 2003 to 2016. Art on 56th in Beirut has held his solo exhibitions Lost and Found (2013), Untold stories (2017) and Intermediary Spaces (2023).
