Biography

Dariush Hoseini is a painter born in Tehran, where he lives and works. At the University of Tehran he studied painting and illustration, taking a master's degree in illustration in 2000. He works in acrylic on canvas and in drawing, moving between representation and abstraction. His paintings of 2022 to 2026 are large figurative scenes of people in everyday settings.

The paintings in In a Continuum, dated 2022 to 2026, turn to the Persian painting tradition. Hoseini takes up its conventions of complex view, decorative pattern, non-linear perspective and shadowless light. He applies them to scenes in a park, a bazaar, a pool and a zoo, as in No Diving (2026) and At the Rug Store (2026). Earlier solo exhibitions in Tehran include Infantry, The Notes and Dystopia.

Hoseini was a painting teacher at the University of Tehran from 1996 to 2011 and is a member of its fine arts faculty. In 2004 he founded the Ariush Art School. His first exhibition was Eternal Question at Laleh Gallery in 2002. Solo shows include Dystopia at Emkan Gallery in 2017 and Persian Carpet at SARAI Gallery, Bandar-e Mahshahr, in 2021. In 2012 Rasm in Tehran published his book Notes.
