Charbel Gergess

Charbel Gergess was born in Lebanon in 1995. He works between realism and abstraction in painting, installation, video and photography, and holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, with distinction, from the Lebanese University's fine arts faculty.

The paintings in Unwelcome, his first solo exhibition, at Artscene Gallery in Beirut in 2026, show sitters from behind, facing a wall in furnished domestic rooms. The palette is cool and mostly uniform, and the face, and with it the identity of the model, is withheld. The series draws on grief after the death of his father and on the upheavals Lebanon has lived through.
