Bashar Khalaf

Bashar Khalaf (b. 1991) is a Palestinian painter who lives and works in Ramallah. He paints in oil and acrylic on canvas and draws in charcoal on paper. His subjects are the steel objects of Palestinian streets, such as bulldozers, vehicles, surveillance cameras, garbage bins and cement-filled barrels.

His practice looks at identity within the collective Palestinian experience and at how public space and the urban landscape have changed. His painting series Shadow of the Shadow won first prize in the A. M. Qattan Foundation's Young Artist of the Year Award in 2014. The Field of Dreams (2026) brings together four series: Junk Garden and Protective Shield in oil, Alhisbeh Fire in charcoal and WeRamallah in acrylic. Protective Shield paints the garbage bins used to block streets during the First Intifada.

Khalaf holds a BFA from Al-Quds University (2013) and an MA in Contemporary Visual Arts from Dar Al-Kalima University, Bethlehem (2025). He held his first solo show at Gallery One, Ramallah, in 2016, followed by solo shows at Zawyeh Gallery in Ramallah (2019) and Dubai (2026). His work was also shown in Suspended Accounts at The Mosaic Rooms, London (2016).
