The Field of Dreams

The Field of Dreams is a solo exhibition by the Palestinian artist Bashar Khalaf at Zawyeh Gallery in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, from 19 September to 8 November 2026.

The exhibition is built from four series. Junk Garden and Protective Shield are oil paintings, Alhisbeh Fire is drawn in charcoal on paper, and WeRamallah uses acrylic. The gallery describes the show as "an exploration of formations of 'steel' in the public space from the perspective of the relationship between the self, the object, and the other." Bulldozers, vehicles, surveillance cameras, garbage bins and steel barrels recur as subjects. The gallery illustrates the exhibition with Junk Garden No. 3.

Protective Shield depicts garbage bins, which the exhibition text recalls were used during the First Intifada to block streets and give shelter from bullets during demonstrations. The same text notes that steel barrels filled with cement were used to seal the entrances to villages and camps. Alhisbeh Fire shows shops that the exhibition text describes as gutted by the Israeli occupation, of which "nothing remains of them but their blackened doors". In WeRamallah, plastic hearts pierced by bullets express what the text calls a relational fragility.

Khalaf was born in Ramallah in 1991 and lives there. He received a BFA from Al-Quds University in 2013 and an MA in Contemporary Visual Arts from Dar Al-Kalima University, Bethlehem, in 2025. His first solo exhibition, Shadow of the Shadow, was held at Gallery One, Ramallah, in 2016. His second, In Search for a Portrait, followed at Zawyeh Gallery, Ramallah, in 2019. He received the Young Artist of the Year Award of the A. M. Qattan Foundation in 2014 and the State Order of Honour for a Young Artist from the Palestinian Ministry of Culture in 2018.
