Sfeir-Semler Gallery

Founded by Andrée Sfeir-Semler in 1985, Sfeir-Semler Gallery works with international contemporary art, with an emphasis on conceptual and minimal practices. After beginnings in Kiel and a long-standing space in Hamburg, the gallery opened in Beirut in 2005, in a converted industrial floor in Karantina near the port.

The gallery describes itself as a cross-cultural link between Western and Middle Eastern contemporary art, and its programme has been central to the international careers of artists such as Walid Raad, Akram Zaatari, Etel Adnan, Wael Shawky and Yto Barrada. Alongside Karantina and Hamburg, it now runs a second Beirut space on the ground floor of the Boulos Fayad building in Downtown.
