Metanoia

Metanoia is a group exhibition at Negah Gallery in Tehran, on view from 2 to 25 October 2026. The gallery lists fifteen artists by name and adds that others also take part. The installation photographs show paintings, framed works on paper and sculpture on plinths, hung and placed in the gallery's white rooms.

The named artists are Ali Akbar Sadeghi, Ardeshir Mohassess, Alireza Adambakan, Saeed Emkani, Hossein Kahfi, Hadi Arab Narmi, Seyed Reza Hosseini and Mohammad Tabatabaei. The list continues with Amir Hossein Amir Jalali, Hamed Mashmouli, Saeed Ashouri, Ghazal Zare, Fereshteh Hemati, Maryam Zare and Ahmad Mortazavi. Mohassess (1938 to 2008) was born in Rasht and made pen and ink drawings that carried political satire. From 1973 his drawings also illustrated opinion pieces in The New York Times.

The gallery frames the exhibition as a story of change. In its text, people move away from their human selves when they face the world, and the way back restores parts of themselves they had forgotten. Its stages are a break, a growing awareness and a coming back to oneself.

One work is documented in detail. Seyed Reza Hosseini shows a piece from his Threshold series, made in acrylic and charcoal on canvas and measuring 120 by 160 centimetres. The gallery's photographs of it show figures drawn in charcoal against areas of saturated colour. The opening takes place on Friday 2 October, from 4pm to 8pm. After that the gallery is open on weekdays from 12pm to 8pm and on Fridays from 4pm to 8pm, and it is closed on Mondays.
