Press release
The 10th Çanakkale Biennial, Metcezir / Ebb & Flow, runs from 10 October to 20 November 2026 at venues across Çanakkale, Troy, Ayvacık and Küçükkuyu. Executive curator Deniz Erbaş and founding director Seyhan Boztepe present more than 60 artists from Turkey and eight other countries. Sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography, video, textile and installation fill old warehouses, a fish market, a museum and village sites. MAHAL, a restored nineteenth century warehouse on Çay Kenarı Sokak, serves as the main venue.
The edition is built around soil and water, and around a city where two seas meet. Its theme follows the tides, shores and deltas of the region and asks how living alongside nature shapes the way people make, learn and live. A Special Focus: Ceramics section appears for the first time, treating clay as a working practice that carries knowledge between generations. Evrensel reports that Yasemin Ülgen devised this selection.
The Troy Museum, where the biennial opened on 10 October, holds the ceramics focus. Füreya Koral, Elif Uras, Burçak Bingöl and Oddviz are among those shown there. Ayça Telgeren installs four concrete sculptures, including Soy Aynası, in which water held in a concrete basin mirrors its surroundings. In the city centre, MAHAL shows Johannes Vogl, Hyeseung Lee and Sunbin Lim. DemirHAN presents a four channel video installation by Ozan Atalan, and Adina Mocanu's fish paintings run as a frieze through the first floor of the Balıkhane. Laurent Lacotte shows there too, with a work built around a poem in three languages and drawn from his time in Çanakkale.
Mavi Ev, in the market quarter, gathers ceramic and glass work by Derya Geylani, Gülden Ataman and Kemal Tizgöl, chosen by Ebru Nalan Sülün. Outside the city, Can Altay, Renée Levi and Stijn Ank show at ORMOS in the village of Yukarı Tartışık. Andreas Treske and Fulya Çetin exhibit at the Adatepe Olive Oil Museum in Küçükkuyu. Talks, workshops, concerts and screenings continue until 27 November 2026. Most city venues open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
