Press release
Chaos Art Gallery on Sursock Street in Achrafieh, Beirut, will show DiPinto, a solo exhibition of paintings by Federico Pinto Schmid, from 18 November to 1 December 2026. The opening reception is on 17 November at 5pm. Pinto Schmid signs his canvases DiPinto and is a self-taught painter of abstract compositions. In his paintings, clearly bounded shapes of flat colour fit together across the surface. The works listed on his own website for 2025 and 2026 are mostly acrylic on canvas, many of them 120 cm square.
The gallery presents his subject as the meeting of colour, form, movement and structure. It names Abstract Expressionism and Italian Informalism as reference points, together with an instinctive way of working. On his website the canvases fall into series. Netti uses sharper geometric divisions and shifting planes, while Materia builds up denser, layered fields of colour. Some pieces go beyond paint: Born from Rust (2026), 120 by 200 cm, adds rusted iron paste and oil pastel to acrylic.
A detail of Stromboli (2026), a square acrylic on canvas measuring 120 cm a side, fills the gallery's poster for the show. The artist's archive lists that painting, and more than a dozen other 2026 canvases, as available through Chaos Art Gallery. He has shown with the gallery in group exhibitions since 2024, among them Rassma la Bassma and Allo Beirut that year and Spring Break in 2025.
Pinto Schmid was born in Orbetello in 1988 and grew up between Porto Ercole and Eschenlohe, in Germany. As a child he spent much of his time in the studio of his father, Mario Alexander Schmid, a sculptor and painter. His earlier solo shows include Federico Pinto Schmid at Museo Le Clarisse, Grosseto, in 2022 and Secret Behind The Color at Hadadi Fine Art, San Francisco, in 2025. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.
