Press release
KAF Contemporary Art Gallery in Achrafieh, Beirut, will present Presence, a solo exhibition of sculpture by May Nabhan, from 6 November to 3 December 2026. The opening is on Thursday 5 November, from 6pm to 9pm. The exhibition poster is built around a photograph of a figurative sculpture. A slender human figure with a lowered head sits on top of a tall block scored with deep vertical grooves.
The photograph is taken from below, against a pale ground, with the figure's face turned downwards. The sculpture's surface is rough and mottled, in browns and greys broken by small patches of rust red. A pale stripe runs from the top of the head down one side of the body. The block beneath carries the same rough finish, and its grooves run from top to bottom.
The gallery opens its text on the exhibition with a question rather than a description. It asks whether the human figure might be less the subject of a sculpture than the site where something unseen takes physical form. As of 30 October 2026, KAF had not published a list of works, their materials or sizes, or a biography of the artist.
KAF has run exhibitions since 2019, and solo shows make up most of its archive. They include Overlap by Mohammad Labash and As I opened my eyes to the light by Gaby El Maamary, both in 2024. Hope by Jinan El Khalil followed in 2025. The gallery also holds collective shows, such as Woven Stories in March 2025. During the exhibition, KAF is open from Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.
