Soufia Erfanian

Soufia Erfanian was born in Mashhad, Iran, in 1990 and is based in Berlin. She works mainly in painting and drawing, and also in video and installation.

She studied architecture and mechanical engineering before turning to art. Her autobiographical work draws on personal histories and relationships and on how the past shapes the present. Melancholy is a recurring tone, and her titles are long, as in My Childhood Room Had No Windows (Lies That Bled Blue) (2024). Her solo exhibition Lies That Bled Blue was shown at Galerie Christophe Gaillard, Paris, in 2025.

Since 2021 she has made collaborative work with Tirdad Hashemi. Their joint work Dance That Pincushion with Rhythm (2023), mixed media and collage on paper, was shown in the group exhibition Dream Time at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, in 2024. It belongs to a series of flower paintings on love, polyamory and intimacy. The pair also showed in the 17th Biennale de Lyon (2024) and were in residence with the Pinault Collection in Lens in 2025.
