Biography
Karma bint Abbas, styled HRH Princess Karma bint Abbas of Jordan, is a Jordanian artist who works with textiles. She applies wool to canvas by needle felting. She adds cut and stitched pieces of reused cloth, so that wool takes the place of paint and fabric the place of a pencil line.
She began with drawing lessons in Amman from the Jordanian artist Aziz Amoura, then studied at Pratt Institute in New York. A Pratt course on the history of textiles in art introduced her to felting. Her work there included Baiti, Arabic for "my home", a group of pieces built from memories of family living rooms. Her thesis responded to events in Gaza, and butterflies recur in her imagery. She names Jordanian, Palestinian and Turkish roots, and textile traditions such as Palestinian embroidery and Bedouin weaving, as sources.
Her first solo exhibition took place in New York, at a Manhattan gallery, during her final year at Pratt. She has since exhibited in Amman, at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, where in 2026 she shows with Rajwa Ali in the installation exhibition SAWA.
