Biography

Hüseyin Rüstemoğlu (b. 1981, Bursa, Turkey) is an artist based in Istanbul who works in painting and mixed media. Writing on his work names loneliness, alienation and not belonging as his subjects, with the distance between a person and society. He paints figures whose bodies and limbs are bent, curved, shrunk or hidden. Figure, skin and body appear in abstract spaces, and in some works his own body is the subject. He paints in oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

Rüstemoğlu studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Sakarya University, graduating in 2006. He took a master's degree there in 2012. His thesis, Modern Resim Sanatında Çıplaklık ve Erotizm Olgusu, dealt with nudity and eroticism in modern painting. His solo exhibitions in Istanbul include Uyutmayan Ninniler at Galeri Binyıl (2010). Büyütmeyen Masallar followed at Galeri Artist Çukurcuma (2012) and His Room at Galeri Espas (2013). For Harita ve Topraklar at Labirent Sanat (2026), his work shows a reclining nude. A small bird sits on a branch above it, in black and white.

Group exhibitions include the 28. Günümüz Sanatçıları İstanbul Sergisi at Akbank Sanat, Istanbul (2009). He was in I Have a Story at the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo (2014).
