Farah Al Qasimi

Farah Al Qasimi (b. 1991, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) is an Emirati artist based in New York. She works as a photographer, video artist, performer and musician. She shows her photographs and videos in layered installations that bring together images from real and online spaces.

Her work examines power, gender, postcoloniality and the look of consumer goods. Much of it turns to multiculturalism and consumer culture in the UAE, and to the line between public and private space. Everybody was Invited to a Party (2018) is a video that draws on the 1980s Arabic-language Sesame Street, using puppetry and repetition. Dream Soup (2019) was a video installation commissioned for March Projects at Sharjah Art Foundation. Back and Forth Disco (2020) was a Public Art Fund project shown in bus shelters in New York.

Al Qasimi received a BA from Yale University in 2012 and an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2017. She has had solo exhibitions at the MIT List Visual Arts Center (2019), the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2021), the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation (2022), C/O Berlin (2023) and the SCAD Museum of Art (2026). Group exhibitions include Sharjah Biennial 15 (2023), Artist and Society at Tate Modern (2023) and the UAE Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2025. Her work is in public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Tate, the Centre Pompidou and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
