Juma Al Haj

Juma Al Haj (b. 1990, United Arab Emirates) is an Emirati artist based in Sharjah who works in painting, installation, sculpture and text. Raised between the UAE and the United States, he builds his works from journaling, gestural mark-making and repetition.

His subjects are memory, language and interoception, and he translates thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations into physical form. He held a solo exhibition, Frame of Mind, at Foundry by Emaar, Dubai, in 2021. The Return (Rajioun), his solo exhibition of paintings, drawings and works with sand presented by Iris Projects at Warehouse 46, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai (2023), included Painting of Sad Letters (2023), acrylic on canvas. Black Cloud, Red Line (2026) was shown in Interoception, his solo exhibition at Iris Projects, Abu Dhabi (2026).

He holds a BSc in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah and an MSc in International Relations with a focus on visual rhetoric. He developed his practice through a residency at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation and a mentorship with Ted Ramsey, and in 2025 he was selected for the Artistic Development Program at 421 Arts Campus, Abu Dhabi. His work is in the collections of the American University of Sharjah, the Barjeel Art Foundation and Qasr Al Watan. He is represented by Iris Projects.
