Biography

Enaya al-Bukhary is a Syrian artist who, according to Ultra Syria, was born in Damascus in 1960. She works in Chinese ink and ink wash on card, watercolour, silkscreen on card and on fabric, engraving on glass and mirror, plastisol-printed fabric, oil on canvas, and acrylic with oil.

Her compositions set squares, circles and architectural shapes against plant motifs, with colour built up in layers. Speaking to SANA, she named heat-sensitive, fluorescent and transparent colours among her materials, and described experiments built on geometric forms and plant elements. Ultra Syria links her series Damascene Miniatures to the Damascene house and its light and shade. One painting in three pieces combines silkscreen with acrylic and oil.

In October 2026 the National Museum of Damascus held Damascus Rhythms, a retrospective of thirty works from 1989 to 2026. Ultra Syria records that she has taken part in the Friends of Art Society's exhibitions since 1989 and in the Ministry of Culture's annual exhibition since 1991. SANA lists her as a member of the Syrian Fine Artists Union, with 13 solo shows across Damascus, Aleppo and Latakia. Outside Syria her work has been seen in Spain, and in group exhibitions in Tunisia and Vienna.
