About
The Musée de la Kasbah, Espace d'art contemporain, is a contemporary art venue in Tangier run by the Fondation Nationale des Musées. The building was a prison until the 1970s. Ahmed Ben Ali Errifi built it in the 17th century. It formed part of Dar El Mekhzen, the monumental complex at the administrative and political heart of the old city.
Today the restored building shows temporary exhibitions, with a programme focused mainly on the north of Morocco. It complements the Musée la Kasbah des cultures méditerranéennes, a few metres away. Shows in its brick-walled galleries have included one of Cuban art and Modernités arabes.
The museum is on Place de la Kasbah, also known as Place Al Mechouar, inside the Kasbah of Tangier. Entry is paid, with reduced rates for visitors under 18 and children under 12.
