About
Diriyah Art Futures is a centre for new media art in Diriyah, Riyadh, set up by the Museums Commission of the Saudi Ministry of Culture. It brings together art, research and education, with a focus on work where art meets science and technology. The centre opened in November 2024.
Its 12,000 square metre building, designed by the Italian firm Schiattarella Associati, stands within the Diriyah UNESCO World Heritage Site. It holds a school, a laboratory and exhibition space. The opening exhibition, Art Must Be Artificial: Perspectives of AI in the Visual Arts, was curated by Jérôme Neutres and traced computer art from the 1960s to the present.
Through its Emerging New Media Artists Programme, developed with Le Fresnoy in France, emerging artists spend a year at the centre with mentors, equipment and a production budget. Each cohort's work is then shown in an annual exhibition, and the centre runs public talks and workshops alongside.
