About

Borusan Contemporary is an Istanbul programme of exhibitions, collecting and education run by the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation. Since 2011 it has been based at Perili Köşk in Rumelihisarı, the building on the Bosphorus that also houses the headquarters of Borusan Holding. Exhibitions are installed through the company's working floors, so that visitors meet the art inside an office.

The programme draws on the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, which holds more than 800 works. Started in the 1990s around modern and contemporary Turkish art, the collection later turned towards new media: video, installation, neon and LED works, photography and software-based art. It was the first collection in Turkey to join IACCCA. Alongside its exhibitions, Borusan Contemporary commissions new works and writing and runs events and education programmes.

Perili Köşk was begun in the 1910s for Yusuf Ziya Pasha and left unfinished when the First World War stopped construction, which earned it the name Haunted Mansion. Architect Hakan Kıran completed and restored it between 1995 and 2000. The venue opens to the public at weekends, with an art store and a café looking over the Bosphorus.
