About
Labirent Sanat is a contemporary art space on the second floor of a building on Tepebaşı Caddesi in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. It presents exhibitions of artists' work, and the archive on its website runs back to Proxemics, shown from April to May 2022.
The gallery describes itself as an independent body built on the principle that everyone should have equal access to art. It says it wants to give audiences, artists and independent curators a fair setting. It also aims to support artists in producing, promoting and presenting original ideas, so that they can live from their creative work.
Its stated method puts process and dialogue ahead of final answers, and it favours democratic settings where people with different views can examine questions together. The name Labirent, Turkish for labyrinth, stands in the gallery's own words for the curiosity and persistence needed to get past obstacles.
