A contemporary art and architecture centre inside a Tunis company headquarters, bringing new art to the places people work.
About
Founded in 2007, La Boîte is a contemporary art centre run by Groupe Kilani and based at the company's headquarters in the industrial zone of La Charguia I in Tunis. It presents itself as a laboratory for research and experimentation, supporting the creation, production, distribution and mediation of artists' work in Tunisia, and its guiding idea is to meet audiences where they live and work, starting with the company's own employees.
Its Charguia programme stages three monographic exhibitions a year in a 180 square metre space opened in 2021, alongside La Boîte Studio, the original 25 square metre room devoted to research. Each show comes with talks, workshops and guided visits, and La Boîte runs artist residencies in the company and exchanges with Montreal, Dakar and Vienna. Recent exhibitions have featured Nadia Kaabi-Linke, Mouna Karray, Ismaïl Bahri, Fakhri El Ghezal, Yesmine Ben Khelil, Malek Gnaoui and Mohamed Ben Slama, and it also programmes shows at the Chapelle Sainte-Monique at IHEC Carthage and in Gabès and Djerba.
