Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts

The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts was founded in 1980 by the Royal Society of Fine Arts, a private non-profit organisation established in Amman in 1979. The Society is governed by a board of trustees headed by HRH Princess Wijdan Al-Hashemi, and funded by donations, grants and loans. Its mission is to promote cultural diversity, spread artistic knowledge and support contemporary art from Jordan, the Arab world and the developing world.

The gallery's permanent collection holds more than 3,000 works of painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video and installation. Its compound in Jabal al-Weibdeh has four buildings around a sculpture garden: exhibition floors, a library, a print studio, artist residencies and Wijdan Artspace for courses and workshops. Alongside its own and international exhibitions, it runs a touring museum van, school programmes and the Factory platform for emerging artists.
