Galerie Janine Rubeiz

Galerie Janine Rubeiz grew out of Dar El Fan, the pioneering cultural centre that Janine Rubeiz founded in Beirut in 1967 and that hosted exhibitions, poetry nights, film screenings and debates until it was destroyed in 1976. In 1992, her daughter Nadine Majdalani Begdache transformed that legacy into a gallery bearing her mother's name, and since 2010 it has occupied its current space in Raouche. The gallery's stated mission is to encourage Lebanese modern and contemporary art and to support its diffusion internationally.

The gallery has worked with figures such as Shafic Abboud, Etel Adnan and Huguette Caland, and in 2017 supported Zad Moultaka's installation "ŠamaŠ" in the Lebanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Alongside long-standing artists such as Jamil Molaeb, Laure Ghorayeb and Halim Jurdak, it has opened its programme to a younger generation, including artists who emerged around the October 2019 protests through its open-call exhibitions "October 17, 2019", "Visions of Today" and "Wajihāt".
